UN, sports bosses and a fascinating railway: The ARD studio in Geneva

Nowhere else can so many different languages be heard on the street: Geneva is the smallest cosmopolitan city on the planet and the European headquarters of the United Nations.
From the World Health Organization (WHO) to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the refugee agency UNHCR to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, around 200 international organizations are struggling here to find diplomatic solutions to the world’s crises. Not far from Geneva, the consequences of the currently greatest global crisis can be observed: climate change is leading to rapid melting of glaciers in the Swiss Alps.
There is also a lot to report from little Switzerland, for example about the secretive banks in one of the most important financial centers in the world or about the power and machinations of the international sports bosses at FIFA, UEFA and IOC. Of course, we also look at Bern and Swiss politics, at the unique system of direct democracy and the country’s difficult relations with the European Union.
And again and again we report on the many inspiring impulses that emanate from the country and its people: the punctual Swiss railways, a Zurich start-up company that is developing “CO2 vacuum cleaners” for climate protection or a Geneva gourmet restaurant that offers free menus every evening served for the poor… Not to forget: art and culture – from the splatter film “Mad Heidi” to Art Basel, from new queer literature to the Locarno Film Festival or the Jazz Festival in Montreux.
