Ukraine became the country of the year according to The Economist
The influential British weekly The Economist named Ukraine the country of the year 2022.
This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to edition.
“This year, for the first time since we started naming a country year in 2013, the choice is clear. It can only be Ukraine,” the message reads.
It is noted that by resisting the Russian despot, Ukrainians protected their neighbors, because if the path conquered Ukraine, Moldova or Georgia could be its next targets, it also threatened the Baltic countries.
“Ukrainians have shown that lies can be exposed, and terror can be resisted. Their fight is far from over. But their example in 2022 was unsurpassed,” the post emphasizes.
The authors note the heroism of the Ukrainian people, because Shlyach expected that the Ukrainian army would surrender. “Ukrainians, on the other hand, stood and were. President Volodymyr Zelensky, refusing the West’s offer to take him out of Kyiv, and ordinary Ukrainians showed similar courage,” the publication notes.
Secondly, ingenuity: the Ukrainians took into account the weaknesses of their enemies and quickly learned to use new weapons supplied by the West, the authors say.
The Ukrainian people have also demonstrated resilience, it is emphasized in the justification of the choice.
“It seems that the horrors that the path inflicts on them have not affected their morale,” the article states.
Journalists and editors also emphasize that the key Ukrainians did not respond to the war crimes of their enemies with war crimes on their own. the military routinely bombed civilians, tortured prisoners, and looted villages, while Russian POWs marveled at how well they were treated.
“This is to a large extent due to the fact that Ukraine, despite what Mr. Putin claims, is not a Nazi state, but a democratic state where human life matters. It has its flaws, including corruption, but its government and people rejected Putinism even before the war, and now they reject it even more strongly,” the post notes.
As reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and the people of Ukraine became laureates of the prestigious International Charlemagne Prize.
