In Milan, the enhancement of a historic building in a contemporary version
Historical architecture for a contemporary lifestyle: a characteristic Milanese building from the end of the 1800s changes face to become a space for coworking.
A prestigious Milanese building located in the Porta Volta district (Biancomano Square 8), managed by AXA IM Alts, adapts to the contemporary lifestyle and is valued in favor of flexible working and coworking. The renovation project signed Vittorio Grassi Architects for Regus, maintains the charm of the historic building while updating the energy and technological performances, and offering functional and comfortable environments with a high level aesthetic profile. The objective: to improve the quality and liveability of spaces, with regard to sustainable development.
A BREEAM-certified project
Indeed, the project for which the studio was supported by Tetris (leading company of the JLL group in design x build and layout of workspaces), was carried out with a particularly attentive approach to the issues of sustainability, comfort and habitability of spaces. Thanks to the assistance of Deerns Italia, “Biancamano 8” obtained the “Very Good” certification under the international BREEAM protocol, which provided the building according to a comprehensive analysis of all aspects related to environmental, economic and social sustainability .

the restyling architectural involved the reorganization of all the rooms spread over 5 floors – hall, 3 bathrooms coworking, 72 offices, 4 meeting rooms, indoor and outdoor spaces dedicated to breaks, interaction and entertainment. The project is also accompanied by the installation of a refined lighting system and the latest generation of technological infrastructures.
Specifically, the project saw the creation of a hall on the ground floor that connects Piazzale Biancamano to the inner courtyard, and facilitating the passage to all areas of the building. The new lobby, an elegant and welcoming environment, presents itself as a multifunctional space where the secretariat, a reception area, coworking, telephone booths and a dedicated break area. Continuing in the spaces overlooking the Bastioni di Porta Volta, we find other posts of coworking and meeting rooms, which can be reconfigured as needed using moveable walls.
From the first to the fourth floor, offices and meeting rooms alternate, some of which have a terrace, punctuated by the use of glass walls and graphite-coloured lights that have generated original chromatic contrasts with the neutral colors of the floor and ceiling. On each floor, common service areas and small cozy lounges present themselves at the entrance to the elevators. On the third floor, another common rest room opens onto the terrace: a large space overlooking the silent inner courtyard, transformed into a lounge area where you can have lunch or work outside, in accordance with the new requirements of works. As for the color palette, the interiors see the dominant presence of different shades of gray (from storm gray to light gray for the furniture), refreshed and relaxing.
