Toulouse: a new start for the Republicans
Elected to the Capitol and mayor of the downtown district, Julie Escudier in turn leaves the Republicans regretting the “right-wing” of the party.
After the departure of the Republicans of the mayor of Toulouse, Jean-Luc Moudenc, at the beginning of November, then that of the president of the departmental federation and deputy mayor of Toulouse, Laurence Arribagé, on the evening of the election of Eric Ciotti, on 11 December, the party recorded a new defection in the person of Julie Escudier, municipal councilor delegated to Toulouse and mayor of the downtown district. She too, she explains to us, does not recognize herself in “the right-winging of LRs. I believe in the need for a gathering of the various sensitivities of the right and the center. »
Julie Escudier affirms “not considering joining another party for the moment”. This is the position adopted by Jean-Luc Moudenc. Laurence Arribagé has chosen to join Edouard Philippe’s party, Horizons. She now chairs the Toulouse committee there.
The estate in question
This series of departures, which may not be close, places the training, which today has 1,500 up-to-date members in Haute-Garonne, in a situation of uncertainty. The departmental secretary Christine Gennaro-Saint is acting until the next internal elections which could take place in October 2023, if the date is not changed.
Last Friday, at the Capitol, during the city council’s lunch break, the elected LRs met to discuss the succession of Laurence Arribagé and possible candidacies. This question is also on the agenda of a meeting of the LR office this Monday evening.
On the sidelines of these movements, Jonnhy Dunal, who had joined Horizons in October 2021, decided to leave this training following the arrival of Laurence Arribagé.
