The city of Salzburg is urgently looking for foster parents – a first point of contact for children who are neglected or experience violence. There are currently three families in the state capital who are taking in children at short notice.
These crisis foster parents are very important, especially for children from birth to three years of age, so that they can be cared for in an emergency. If no one can be found, affected children could be housed in a children’s home as a last resort, says Social Councilor Anja Hagenauer (SPÖ).
Children’s home as a last consequence
“For children who have to be accommodated outside of the family but who don’t get a place in a small unit, i.e. a family or a shared apartment, we have to think about something bigger – say a kind of children’s home. And I don’t think we all want that,” says Hagenauer (SPÖ).
In the city of Salzburg alone, there are 15 children a year who need help from crisis foster parents until a lasting decision is made as to where the child can be best cared for.
