Marseille: new homicide by bullets, against the backdrop of drug trafficking
A new homicide by bullets took place on Saturday in Marseille, in broad daylight, still against the backdrop of drug trafficking, in a city in the working-class districts of Marseille.
The victim is a 28-year-old man, said Marseille public prosecutor Dominique Laurens, confirming the initial information from the daily. Provence. He was “known for drug trafficking cases”, added the magistrate.
According to AFP figures, this is the 31st shooting homicide in the Bouches-du-Rhône since the start of the year, thus equaling the record level of 31 “homicides committed in recorded tape” by the courts in 2016 in the department.
The two shooters on the run
The facts took place in the heart of the city of Castellas, in the 15th arrondissement, one of the many poor neighborhoods in the north of Marseille plagued by drug trafficking and violence. According to a police source, two individuals arrived by car and opened fire around noon, fatally hitting the victim.
According to this same source, the two shooters were still at large on Sunday. Their vehicle was found partly charred, the prosecution said. The investigation was handed over to the federal police.
This is the third murder of this type this year in the city of Castellas, after the death of a man in the parking lot of the neighborhood supermarket on May 23 and then that of another man on June 16, each time in the early evening. Both were in their twenties.
