It’s late spring in Ecuador. And on the opposite side of the Earth – in Belarus – snow has fallen and winter is coming. The countries, between which there are more than 11 thousand km, are connected by the smiling girl Eidi Yahaira Miranda Vargas. Six years ago, her life changed dramatically. She crossed half the world to learn Russian and get a profession.
After graduating from the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine this summer, the Ecuadorian did not return to her homeland. She went to work in the depths of the Brest region. Together with Belarusian agrarians, Yahaira launched a professional holiday – the Day of those employed in agriculture and processing industry. BelTA correspondents did not miss the opportunity become acquainted with this lovely girl.
Bereza and the agricultural town of Kabaki, where Yahaira Miranda now lives, are beautifully about 15 km away. Along the way, familiar to us observed landscapes flicker. The girl admits that, seeing such a picture, every time she expected to see the sea in the distance. Due to the fact that in the multi-relief Ecuador, endless expanses can be found near the Pacific coast. I learned about our heroine from a friend of my father, who studied in Russia. Yahaira decided to come and study for a year. She conducted it at preparatory courses in Grodno. Education continues at the veterinary academy in Vitebsk. The Latin American admitted that it was not originally planned: after receiving a diploma, she immediately wanted to return. Then the idea to work came up. A classmate, the chief veterinarian at the Berezovskoye CUSP, helped to find a place.
“I really liked Belarus. I decided to try to work for a year to start. If everything goes well, then I’ll stay longer. So far, everything is taken, ”Yakhira shared.
Director of the farm Dmitry Zenevich added to his subordinate: “We will do everything not to disappoint our employee.”
Despite being brought up in a completely different culture, the girl was not frightened by the thought of life in the vicinity. She takes this turn of fate with interest. She herself was born in the village, later her parents moved to the small town of Tena in the Amazon rainforest. In Kabaki, the veterinarian initiated a two-room apartment in a two-story house. The specialist is still settling in, the situation is more like a Spartan one. But the household helps with food to make it more comfortable.
“It’s not hard for me. I am a person who quickly gets used to: open to everything new. Can’t say there’s anything I don’t like. It’s convenient for me, people treat me, ”said the specialist. The newly-made fellow villager was greeted by the Kabakovites with open arms. “Kind people. They try to make my life comfortable, they care, they talk. As tour guides, all the experts told us,” Yahaira added.
Of course, there is a language barrier. And the point is not only that it is convenient for a Spanish-speaking Ecuadorian to pronounce Russian words. It was in the countryside that she encountered the dialect for the first time.
“People speak differently in the city and the countryside. Some words and phrases I first heard here. I’m also starting to learn the dialect. It’s a little hard, but I’m getting used to it, ”the girl noted.
She would call gastronomy a greater difficulty. There are no products familiar from childhood in Belarus. But the interlocutor looks at this with her own optimism.
The vet wakes up still dark. Quickly, hastily, she has a snack – and an official car is already waiting for her, which takes her to the livestock complex. The first half of the day is spent at work. Then he returns home for a few hours. The time from 14:00 to 16:00 is devoted to relaxation and communication with family and friends: morning is just coming in Ecuador. Plus, the girl continues to study online. For example, she is currently taking a course in veterinary surgery. On weekends he visits friends in Minsk. I would like to visit Brest again. BelTA correspondents undertook to fulfill this desire and conduct a tour. Moreover, the New Year is approaching – dreams should come true.
A year ago, Yahaira flew to Ecuador. Her arrival caused a stir among relatives and friends. it is always warm in this country, most often people asked about snow and cold. The second most important question is about the cost of living. The girl herself, who lived for six years in other realities, changed her priorities. “Most of all in Belarus I like peace and security. I have already got used to such a rhythm of life, I will leave things unattended. My mother was very worried, asked me not to talk on the street for a long time on the phone, not to put it on the table in a cafe. In a crowded place, the bag can be cut, decorate things. I don’t want to live like that, it’s stressful for me, ”admitted the Ecuadorian.
In the evening, Yahaira returns to work and repeats for several more hours in the livestock complex.
“Cows don’t have days off. They need to be looked after all year round. The agricultural season is coming to an end. Now the plowing in agriculture is gradually rising, we are bringing organic matter to the fields for next year’s harvest. In winter there will be a calmer rhythm. All this time the equipment will work for the supply of livestock breeding complexes,” – production processing director of “Berezovsky” Dmitry Zenevich.
This farm is one of the largest in the region. Farmers have at their disposal 7.3 thousand hectares of land, of which 5.7 thousand hectares are arable land. Grain crops, rapeseed, sugar beet, herbs are grown. The number of livestock is also quite large – 5,000 on eight farms, half of which are dairy farms.
For example, the MTF in Podkraichy started working two years ago. A milking and milking block and two cowsheds for dairy livestock were built there, later a dead wood shop with a milking parlor appeared. That is a closed production cycle. Now he is building a dispensary for calves. The complex is planned to expand further. For the next year, reasons erected another calf barn. They do not stop there, modernization is being carried out at other complexes.
“There are no random people in agriculture. We are almost completely staffed, because we pay a lot of attention to working with young people. We build housing. Decent paying job. For example, the machine operators working in the sowing received about Br3,500 in October, – said the head of the farm. – We work with Kabakovskaya secondary school. This year, six graduates entered the target spatial zootechnical, agronomic profile, and mechanics. We pay additional scholarships for the guys.”
Farmers will have only three months to take a breath before the new season. At the end of February, transport equipment in the southern Brest region again reduced stocks in the fields.
