the Toulouse University Hospital to be declared Friday, December 16, 2022 level 1 of the white plan at the children’s hospital. A situation that can be explained by “pediatric emergencies that have been saturated for several weeks due to the epidemic of bronchiolitis and other respiratory pathologies“, explains the professor Beatrice Riuvice-president of the medical commission of the CHU of Toulouse.
5 children per day in absolute emergency
In recent days, on average, 250 children were brought daily to the CHU25 were hospitalized, including 5 in absolute emergency.
“This bronchiolitis epidemic is special”, insists Isabelle Oliver-Petit, pediatrician at the CHU, ” it affects very young children, less than 6 months, sometimes even less than 2 months. The work is then more complex and the care heavier”.
Neither requisition nor deprogramming…
However, this white plan will not have great implications. Indeed, this device plays on two parameters to help organize the work of caregivers. The requisition on one side.
“But out of the question in view of the exhaustion of our teams and their need to enjoy their families during these end-of-year holidays”.
And deprogramming, “which here too is useless since very few operations are observed at this time of year,” explain the teams.
… but a call to action
The triggering of this device is therefore intended a warning cry for health professionals of the city and the population.
By asking the former to remain open during the holidays. And the seconds, first, to protect yourself with the help of barrier gestures and then to contact SOS doctors (05.61.33.00.00), on the 15th or to go to a medical care center before going to the emergency room of the CHU.
“We will not be able to meet all the needs, and obviously vital emergencies will always be a priority“, the teacher explains Sandrine Charpentierhead of the emergency medicine department.
Covid still there
And these recommendations also concern adults, since general emergencies are also difficult with calls that have increased by 20 to 30%extended delays and especially the Covid-19 which never really left and continues to send people, often elderly and suffering from other pathologies, to the hospital.
The system is therefore tense on all sides, and the Christmas holidays worry caregivers to the highest degree. Especially since a disease is still waiting, the flu. “She is late, but when she arrives, it will be extremely complicated,” predicts Sandrine Charpentier.
