RTL Today – Solidarity and education: Luxembourg donates 8 school buses to Ukraine
Following an international request for bus donations to Ukraine, Luxembourg made its contribution by providing eight coaches provided by Voyages Emile Weber.
Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, many transport vehicles were transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, especially to ensure the safe evacuation of civilians from war zones.
This transfer includes school buses, leaves thousands of school children without safe means of transport and makes it more difficult to continue an education as normal as possible.
Following Ukraine’s call for help, the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works appealed to the Luxembourg Federation of Bus and Coach Operators to request a bus donation to support the Ukraine.
The company Voyages Emile Weber, based in Canach, answered the call by providing eight buses in excellent condition, with a capacity of 50 to 70 seats each. These buses will continue their life on the roads of Ukraine.
Anne Calteux, European Commission Representative in Luxembourg, said: “an estimated 5.7 million school-aged children in Ukraine have been affected by Russia’s unwarranted aggression, and thousands of schools and facilities have been damaged. Luxembourg’s contribution to this wave of solidarity will make a real difference in the lives of many Ukrainian children.”.
This is not the first time that Voyages Emile Weber has reacted to the crisis. At the end of February 2022, eight coaches were made available by the company to transport refugees to host families or to the emergency structures set up at the time – an initiative stemming from volunteers within the company.
