in Toulouse, young LFI activists deplore a sanction “far from sufficient”
The LFI deputy from the North is sentenced to a four-month suspended prison sentence for intentional violence against a spouse. Excluded from the parliamentary group, he wishes to return to the hemicycle. The rebellious young militants of Haute-Garonne and elsewhere in France are part of their disapproval.
Can Adrien Quatennens return to the National Assembly? The deputy from the North has just been found guilty of intentional violence against a spouse. This sentence was imposed on him after he was recognized a slap given to his ex-wife named Céline, as well as sending a slew of text messages to her bad for several months. The Lille elected official was thus sentenced by the court to a four-month suspended prison sentence for domestic violence.
In parallel with this condemnation, his political party, La France Insoumise, announced the temporary exclusion of the parliamentary group created following the last legislative elections in June 2022. This exclusion is to last four months. At the end of this sanction, Adrien Quatennens would be authorized to find the benches of the assembly alongside his counterparts. In any case, this is what the 32-year-old elected official suggested during recent speeches in various media following his conviction.
The desire displayed by Adrien Quatennens to continue his political career under the colors of LFI does not pass with the rebellious young militants from Toulouse.
In a press release published Thursday, December 15, the militants of the Mélenchonist party indicate that they have “took note of the sanction aimed at the deputy Adrien Quatennens as well as the decision of the parliamentary group La France insoumise – NUPES ruling on his exclusion from the group for four months”.
Also in this official announcement, they say to themselves in “anger“and share their”deception”. This decision would be on their terms “far from sufficient“in view of the gravity of the facts. In the words of the press release, it could also “weaken the bond of trust between elected officials and activists”.
“We can only deplore the way in which the handling of this affair has an impact on our military commitment.t”, continued the rebellious Toulousains. They even ensure that the political, union and association partners of LFI”don’t understand the choice” taken by the executive body of the left party.
These revelations were similar to an explosion in the ranks of the Melenchonist left. Today away from the executive body of the movement, Adrien Quatennens was for a time expected to take over from Jean-Luc Mélenchon at the head of the movement.
Following this affair, delegations of young LFI activists announced their militant activities. This is particularly the case at Bordeaux (Gironde) and Perigueux (Dordogne).
