In LuxembourgMeteoLux places the whole country on orange cold alert
LUXEMBOURG – The mercury will drop to -13°C overnight from Saturday to Sunday, alert MeteoLux, which raises its alert level. And also issues an ice warning.
The night will be cold, very cold, warns MeteoLux. The forecaster installed at Findel is issuing an orange alert for extreme cold from this Saturday, 10 p.m., to Sunday morning, 10 a.m. Temperatures will fluctuate between -13°C and -10°C, avoid MeteoLux. The orange alert means that the cold could present a health risk, especially for the elderly, infants or even people with heart or respiratory diseases.
Hypothermia or frostbite may occur. It is therefore advisable not to stay exposed to the cold and wind for too long, to dress warmly if you have to go out, with several layers of clothing, including an outer layer that is wind and waterproof. Protecting your head and hands is also recommended, as is drinking hot drinks.
Watch out for ice!
For the rest, if the mercury should then climb, during the day on Sunday, to peak between -1 and +1°C, it will be chilly again at the end of the day, with rain in the evening. Rain with cold, it’s a dangerous cocktail, on the road. MeteoLux also warns that these showers, even not very intense, will be freezing in places. Patches of ice could therefore form on the roadway, in places.
The Luxembourg meteorologist therefore issues an ice warning and again places the whole country on yellow alert on Sunday, from 7 p.m. to midnight. So be extremely careful if you have to hit the road. Or, if you can, just stay at home while waiting for the thaw, which will be soon. From Monday morning, it will be 2 to 4°C, then 7 to 9°C in the afternoon. The rest of the week will be similar, according to MeteoLux, with milder temperatures, but rain every day, all day.
