World Cup: here are the security measures taken in Toulouse and Haute-Garonne this weekend

In view of the final of the world Cup (which will oppose France to Argentina, Sunday at 4 p.m.) and the match for 3rd place (which will oppose Morocco to Croatia, Saturday at 4 p.m.), the prefect of Haute-Garonne and the Occitanie region, Etienne Guyot, decided to take several security measures.
“Special measures”
“In view of the need to secure as much as possible the last matches of the Football World Cup which will oppose, on the one hand, Morocco to Croatia on Saturday, and on the other hand, France to Argentina on Sunday , and to deal with any possible disturbance to public order, special measures are taken by the prefect. They relate to regulations on fuel dispensingof possession and use of fireworks”, indicates the prefecture of Haute-Garonne in a press release released Friday at the start of the afternoon.
Smoke bombs and firecrackers prohibited
Here are the prohibition measures that have been taken. From Saturday December 17, 2022 (00:00 a.m.) to Monday December 19 (8:00 a.m.), in all municipalities of the Haute-Garonne department, the following are prohibited:
- transfer, sale, transport and use dangerous, flammable or chemical products, explosive products, fireworks, smoke bombs and firecrackers of all categories, except for professional reasons.
- purchase and retail sale, removal or transportation of any fuel, by jerrycans, cubitainers, cans, flasks or various containers, with the exception of the products concerned intended for the supply of individual heating appliances.
“This prohibition does not apply to pyrotechnic shows declared within the set deadlines and fired by pyrotechnicians holding a valid qualification certificate”, specifies the prefecture.
A substantial police force
“Law enforcement will be mobilized in numbers to ensure the smooth running of the evening while respecting public order and the values of sport”, adds the prefecture. An announcement that comes as Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin and law enforcement officials unveiled this Friday morning the security arrangements for the last matches of the World Cup in Qatar this weekend.
Altogether, something 12,800 police and gendarmes will be mobilized on Saturday in France to ensure the security of the festivities preventing the small final of the World Cup and 14,000 on Sunday for the final. In Toulouse, the exact figure for the number of police and gendarmes mobilized this weekend has not leaked.
