University of Genoa: Corte Conti “acquits” former president Massardo – Liguria

No tax damages of 719 thousand euros: request rejected by the Public Prosecutor’s Office

(ANSA) – GENOA, DECEMBER 16 – “The request of the regional prosecutor’s office cannot be accepted, due to lack of proof of tax damage”. With this motivation, a sentence of the Court of Auditors of Liguria rejected the request of the Prosecutor who had sued the professor of the University of Genoa Aristide Fausto Massardo (former president of Engineering of the university of the Ligurian capital and former candidate for president of the Liguria Region ) asking for him to be sentenced to compensation of 719 thousand euros, on charges of “illegitimate receipt of compensation for extra-institutional activities”. The Court of Auditors reiterated that “the law provides for a significant margin of freedom for university teachers, even full-time” and held that “all the activities carried out” by Massardo, “considered individually, are lawful”.

Again the Court of Auditors underlines: “Despite the high number of assignments, therefore the Board conclusively believes that, on the basis of what is found in the documents, there can theoretically remain sufficient time to fulfill, from year to year, the 1,500 hours of research and teaching requirements, nor have specific failings in the fulfillment of the university obligations of the professor been contested, who, on the other hand, appears to have brought prestige to the University for his scientific activities and there are no elements in the deeds such as to suggest that the defendant has not carried out the prescribed 1,500 hours”.
