Two more families from Venezuela moved to Lithuania
A total of six persons have been relocated, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) reported.
In Vilnius, they were met by representatives of the Refugee Reception Center, who take care of temporary accommodation, warm clothes and shoes for the arrivals.
Later, the displaced persons will be provided with assistance in Lithuania – benefits for settlement and essential needs, support for children’s education and Lithuanian language learning, help in job searches.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a total of 124 persons have already been relocated from crisis-stricken Venezuela through the diplomatic efforts of Lithuania.
Another 36 people are waiting for the trip to Lithuania. Their departure from Venezuela is hampered by difficulties due to invalid travel documents, health problems, Venezuelan bureaucratic obstacles and the country’s restrictions on movement.
The relocation program of persons of Lithuanian origin and their family members from the crisis-ridden Venezuela has been implemented since September 2019.
A special law makes it possible to compensate moving expenses and provide other state support to Lithuanians living in crisis-stricken countries.
The Lithuanian community in Venezuela unites about 400 persons of Lithuanian origin. It is believed that about 1 thousand people live in Venezuela. Lithuanian citizens and persons of Lithuanian origin.
