On the approach of Christmas and because of the match for 3rd place (Morocco-Croatia) and the final of the world Cup (France-Argentina), the city center will be crowded this weekend, at Toulouse ! Here are our tips for good circular in town, Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 December 2022.
A busy weekend
Usually, the first weekend of the end-of-year holidays is always busy, with most stores open on Saturday and Sunday to facilitate the last purchases of Toulouse residents for the Christmas shopping rush.
This will be even more the case this year because of the World Cup. Indeed, many supporters will attend in town (in the bars, because there will be no giant screen) the small final between Morocco and Croatia (Saturday 5 to 4 p.m.) and the final between France and Argentina (Sunday 6 to 4 p.m.).
In this context, law enforcement will be “mobilized in numbers” this weekend, a warned the prefect of Haute-Garonne, Etienne Guyot. And especially in downtown Toulouse.
Choose public transport!
“In order to prevent a traffic jam in the city center of Toulouse, it is strongly recommended to favor the use of public transport and in particular the metro, from 1 p.m. on Saturday December 17 and from 3 p.m. on Sunday December 18. It is advisable to consult the Tisséo site before using public transport, as traffic may be disrupted and certain bus lines diverted”, indicates the prefect.
Diverted bus lines
And indeed, several bus lines will be diverted this weekend
- For Saturday 17 and Sunday 18, from 3:30 p.m., “the Airport Shuttle as well as lines L1, L4, L8, L9, 14, 15, 23, 29, 39, 44, 45, 63 and 70 are diverted. The City Center Shuttle is suspended. The diversions put in place reflect the connections with lines A and B of the metro in order to continue your journeys”, indicates Tisséo.
But several measures have been taken to encourage Toulouse residents not to take their cars.
The reinforced metro, Sunday (and bus lines too)
Due to the expected high attendance, Sunday December 18, Tisséo is going all out:
- lines A and B of the metro are reinforced.
- the Downtown Shuttle operates exceptionally (until 3:30 p.m.).
- the frequency of bus lines L2, L4, L8, L9, L10, 19, 59 and 79 is increased
“Also think about the park and ride car parks to park at the gates of Toulouse with complete peace of mind: parking is free for travellers,” adds Tisséo.
This year, in fact, the City has not decided to do not renew the free operation in downtown parking lots. It consisted of offering three hours of parking in several car parks on certain Sundays in December. As to Capitole car park, it will be regulated for the first time Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 December. Not everyone will have access to it.
A 3 euro return ticket
Consequently, in order to encourage as many users as possible to take public transport, Tisséo has decided to set up a reduced price ticketthis weekend: a ticket to 3€ round trip for easy access to shops and the city center by public transport.
A ticket available on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 December “on our ticket vending machines, in Tisséo agencies and on our mobile app”, specifies Tisséo.
