The UN official urges Lithuania to consider data protection issues in prisons
It aims to identify good practices and areas for improvement in the country and to provide specific recommendations in the field of protection of the right to privacy.
“Data protection in prisons should be considered with particular care,” ABNougreres reflected on his visit.
During her visit to Lithuania, she met with several institutions of the country, including the State Security Department, the Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs, the Supreme Court, the Police Department, and the Registry Center.
She also met with the members of the Seimas, with whom she discussed the law on the establishment of the intelligence controller’s institute, draft legislation on same-sex partnerships.
“It must be said that such vulnerable groups as migrants, refugees, children, seniors, LGBT should receive greater protection,” said the UN official.
Based on the information gathered during the visit, a report of the UN Special Rapporteur on ensuring the right to privacy in Lithuania will be prepared and submitted to the UN Human Rights Council.
ABNougreres emphasized that Lithuanian representatives will be able to meet with UN representatives and discuss problems before the preparation of reports.
