The Republic of Finland and the United States co-hosted a Political-Military Consultation (PMC) meeting with Global Coalition To Defeat ISIS defense officials on December 14 in Helsinki. PMC participants discussed the need for continued commitment to the Defeat-ISIS campaign in Iraq and Syria. The PMC participants also discussed the near-term priority of increasing humanitarian and stabilization aid to ISIS-free areas in northeastern Syria and Iraq, as well as the need to return ISIS members and displaced persons currently living in camps in northeastern Syria to their homelands. in countries of origin and communities.
Participants looked at ways to deepen cooperation to deal with ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K) in Afghanistan, taking into account shared concerns about the threat posed by the terrorist organization in Central and South Asia and elsewhere in the world.
The PMC also investigated the growing ISIS threat in Africa and received information from the alliance partners about the situation on the ground and possible future cooperation options.
