At the Toulouse city council, a new update on the RER
At the Toulouse city council, this Friday, Jean-Luc Moudenc recalled his reservations about the competence of an RER but he reiterated his readiness to participate in any consultation meeting on the subject.
“A new voice came to support the idea of moving forward on an RER project, that of the President of the Republic. “And for Antoine Maurice (EELV), this is an opportunity, as he did this Friday, at the Toulouse city council, to ask Jean-Luc Moudenc the question: “Are you finally going to get out of your isolation? , of your stubbornness? Tisséo can very well finance an RER. “Faced with the prospect of rail development which is currently occupying everyone’s mind, the president of the group of elected environmentalists again accused the mayor of Toulouse: “At this stage, you are the only obstacle. »
The day after the launch of the construction site for the 3rd metro line, the municipality’s flagship project which should see the light of day at the end of 2028 according to the announced schedule, this attack on the RER provided the opportunity for a new development of the part of Jean-Luc Moudenc on what Pierre Esplugas, on behalf of the majority group, describes as the “magic wand” of the opposition.
” A good idea “
“The idea of the RER is to attract the inhabitants of the second and third crowns by offering them an alternative to the car. And it’s a good idea,” said the mayor who, on October 20, at the Metropolis, had voted for the wish in favor of an RER but already adding reservations, in particular on the need – to avoid – to build new paths.
By the way, Jean-Luc Moudenc repeated this Friday the comparison between the metro, “which offered a dessert every two to three minutes”, and the RER which offered a schedule “from fifteen to thirty minutes”.
While waiting for these new routes, he reframed, “it is a question of increasing the pace of the local train that already exists: the TER”. This corresponds to the latest proposal from the association Rallumons l’Etoile to try to move forward without waiting too long.
But to clear this step, there is also a prerequisite that the mayor recalled: “Check that there is no saturation on the current network. “Or, the president of the Region, Carole Delga, “regularly alerts us to this saturation”.
See you in January
Without changing anything in his positions, which he therefore recalled, the first magistrate nevertheless adopted a more conciliatory tone. For him, Tisséo, with the 3rd metro line and its five connections to stations, but also the Metropolis, with its contribution to the railway development in the north of Toulouse, has already contributed to the development of an RER. And Jean-Luc Moudenc assured him: “Tisséo and Toulouse Métropole will be at the rendezvous of any consultation on the development of urban rail. »
On this subject, the Region and the departmental council have just expressed their desire to move forward. According to our information, the prefect Etienne Guyot was preparing a communication for the beginning of the year. Will we then see more clearly on the RER?
