After the tiny houses and the converted containers, here is the unfoldable house
Housing concepts that can be built in record time are on the rise. After the house printed in 3D in 24 hours and the prefabricated transportable by helicopter, the foldable house arrives in Toulouse. A wooden builder is embarking on this niche.
Do you dream of a small house that can be converted in a few hours? This dream is now a reality with the development in China or the United States of foldable houses.
In Toulouse, a builder of wooden houses for 20 years decided to embark on the adventure. It will market from 2023, small foldable houses of 35m2 made of polyurethane insulated panels.
Delivered from China in a container, this house offers once deployed 35m2 of living space in just a few minutes. They can be installed in just one hour.
Requiring no foundation or heavy work, this house can eventually be installed anywhere, provided that the land is flat. The concrete slab is not necessary.
New housing concept
Between the tiny house, the fitted container and now the foldable house, the concept of easily deployable small houses has tended to multiply in recent years.
Inside, this house looks like a small T3, with two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a dining room and a bathroom. It’s not great luxury, but the minimum comfort is definitely there.
These small houses were designed to meet current needs in the field of construction and in the face of the housing crisis. “The field of possibilities is very wide”explains Patrick Barrière, who is starting to sell these houses.

I want to embark on this project for humanitarian purposes. When I saw that we could house people in houses very quickly, I was immediately won over with its speed of installation. One can imagine these houses as a housing solution for the homeless. They can also respond to extreme emergencies of local communities when storms or fires expropriate people in a few minutes sometimes.

But this foldable house can also be used for other uses as a mobile home in campsites or leisure accommodation in seasonal rental complexes, or even as a shelter for garden furniture, the uses are multiple.
Between €25,000 and €32,000
The price of these houses varies between 25,000 and 32,000 euros depending on the layout, delivery and installation options. They are currently made in China.
“My ultimate goal would be to sell enough to develop a real clientele, because I would retain the power to eventually create a 100% French manufacturing plant on our territory while expanding the concept, from houses of 35m2 up to 132m2” , discovery of Patrick Barrière of Little Giant Modular, manufacturer of wooden houses for 20 years.
