Yatofu Creatives is planning a third Noodle Story restaurant in Helsinki
Chinese food place The story of the noodle has tapped the local studio again Yatofu Creatives builds its third office in Helsinki. Handmade noodles and dumplings tell about the nostalgic yet refreshing design of the 1,184-square-foot space, as does a handsome curio cabinet found by the team at an antique market.
“It is purposely made to preserve all the things that the collector finds interesting or connected to. Then it clicked for us that we want to create this feeling in the new Noodle Story restaurant”, says Angela Lindahl, founding partner of Yatofu. “Asian food culture is gathering around the table to exchange stories and share values and experiences. By turning the restaurant into an enlarged cabinet of curiosities, customers can not only find their own connections, but also the objects inside can spark new conversations and retelling of old stories.
Stained oak brings warmth and atmosphere to interiors, while juxtaposing harder materials. On the other side of the roof, an installation made of brass and blackened steel dazzles with complexity and acts as a minimalistic contrast to the raw black concrete elements. Sage green walls in the dining room evoke a feeling of openness, and hardware motifs abound in the furniture, creating more intimate focal points as well.
“Noodle Story’s newest restaurant interprets this fascination with authentic food culture through a personal and unique lens. We remove the common visual culture associated with Chinese food and focus on the individual’s experience and connection to the space,” adds founding partner Yihan Xiang. “This way, everyone can leave a different impression of the restaurant.”
