The construction of the 3rd metro line now begins in Toulouse, and its price explodes
It’s official: the construction site to build the 3rd metro line in Toulouse, baptized “line C”
is launched this Thursday, December 15, 2022 in Toulouse. Tisséo is organizing a visit very close to Ernest Wallon, in order to measure the extent of the work for this line which must connect Colomiers in Labège in 2028.
22 km underground
The line will extend over 27 kilometers, via 21 stations. There must be 22 km underground, with a depth of 20 to 35 meters. Thus, near the ring road on the other side of the Stade Toulousain lair, a drill is installed. It must dig a well of about twenty meters, to serve as access to the firefighters. This construction site near Ernest Wallon is the first in a series of 40, which will concern the shell… and make noise. “But who remembers Esquirol’s big hole?”argues Jean-Michel Lattes, president of Tisséo engineering and deputy mayor of Toulouse. He recalls that “this is the biggest construction site that the Metropolis has ever known”.
An additional cost of 410 million euros
This 3rd line will cost 410 million euros more than expected, also indicates Sacha Briand, vice-president for metropolitan France in charge of finance during the Tisséo union committee. That is a total budget of 3.44 billion euros against 2.7 announced at the start. This additional cost, linked to the rise in the prices of materials and energy, was approved by the Tisséo union council this week. But how the funder? Jean-Michel Lattes ensures that there is will have no impact on local taxes and that funding will be detailed in January. The municipal opposition, which had denounced this additional cost,
requires an independent audit.
Jean-Luc Moudenc, the mayor of Toulouse is present on the site this Thursday and will be the guest of France Bleu Occitanie on Friday December 16 at 7:45 a.m. “I have wanted this line for 9 years, I am happy. It is normal to devote time and work to it”, indicates the chosen one.
