Ex Ilva, Rixi: “It’s right to rethink the 2005 Agreement on Genoa areas” – Primocanale.it
GENOA – “The program agreement dates back to 2005 and its possible revision must be done with the parties who signed it at the time. From this point of view, my ministry is only a spectator. But I believe that a rethinking needs to be addressed, given that that agreement provided for both production and employment volumes that were never fully achieved”. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Edoardo Rixi regarding the proposal filed in Municipality by the consortium formed by MSC, Ignazio Messina Spa, Interglobo and Number 1 Logistics for a logistics settlement on the former Ilva iron and steel areas of Genoa Cornigliano.
Logistics in unused former Ilva areas: here is Bucci’s idea – LA NOTIZIA
“We cannot assume that in 2023, more than 2,000 people can work in a steel mill like the one in Genoa, also because many processes have been automated. But having such an immense area that employs so little manpower becomes a problem. Mayor Marco Bucci did well to put any requests on the plate to push the government and the Ministry of Economy and Economic Development to make choices that could represent a change in the program agreement”.
“There is a property that is delaying certain investments – concluded Rixi – and there is a need to have the entire steel cycle in our country. But there is also the need, in an area that is hungry for space like the Genoese one, to put every available square meter to good use”.
However, Rixi’s words sparked the controversy: Igor Magni, general secretary of the Genoa Chamber of Labor, responded. “From a member of this Government we would expect clarity and linearity with the choices of the executive – Mangini declares -. We know that the Government has confirmed the strategic nature of Acciaierie d’Italia and therefore investments and increased production with an expansion plan also on the areas of Cornigliano that will serve the plant. Instead, we think it is good that the Government accelerates the phase of relaunching industrial activities as stated”.
