Austria has already left for Canada! – Hockey-News.info – All news about national and international ice hockey
On Thursday morning, Austria’s U20 national team took off for Canada, where they will first test against Germany, Austria’s last group opponents at the World Cup itself, in Antigonish on December 20, and against Slovakia in Truro on December 23. After that, the final World Cup squad WILL be determined – two players will be removed from the current roster. In these, Jakob Lippitsch was nominated due to Nico Kramer’s cancellation due to injury. On December 26th they started in Halifax against Sweden in the World Cup with the big goal of staying in the league.
“We are positively excited and happy that things are finally starting,” reports Head coach Kirk Furey. For the native Canadian, this World Cup is special in many ways. Antigonish is the birthplace of Carinthia’s choice of taken over by the national team in the fall. Family, friends and companions will not only be there for the friendly against Germany on December 20th. After the final friendly against Slovakia in Truro on December 23, it’s time to decide on the final squad. “There’s a tough decision waiting for us,” confirms Furey.
On Stefanitag (December 26) they started the tournament against Sweden, then they meet the Czech Republic, hosts Canada and Germany. The big goal is of course staying up, which from the current point of view can be achieved in two ways: 4th place in the group phase and the associated entry into the quarter-finals, or by winning the relegation, which is carried out in best-of-three format.
Many eyes will be on Vinzenz Rohrer, who was drafted in 75th place by the Montreal Canadians, and on David Reinbacher, who has been closely watched by scouts for weeks. Jakob Lippitsch was nominated for the U20 World Cup because Nico Kramer had to sit out due to injury.
