The UN says it is concerned about hate on social media
the United Nations is concerned about the spread of hate and misinformation on social media, spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said on Tuesday.
A UN spokesman said after this Elon Musk disbanded Twitter’s department that handles harassment cases on the microblogging site.
“We are very concerned about how social media platforms become an environment that spreads hate and disinformation. And I think it’s the responsibility of social media companies to make sure that doesn’t happen,” Dujarric told a news conference.
However, the Secretary General will not comment on Twitter’s new technical changes, Dujarric added.
On Monday, Twitter disbanded the company’s Trust and Safety Council, which is responsible for combating harassment and child abuse. The move comes as new Twitter owner Musk reverses many of the network’s policies and practices that were in place before his acquisition.
Musk announced this month that he wants to change certain technical features of Twitter, including increasing the number of Twitter characters from 280 to 4,000.
In addition, the billionaire would like to increase the maximum length of videos — a change that could help bloggers and others make money while creating better content for the platform.
