Two musicians from L’Isle-Jourdain integrated into the Toulouse conservatory
Two young musicians from the Toulouse Gascony music school entered the Toulouse Conservatory.
Two young musicians from the Toulouse Gascony music school and members of the Philharmonic Society passed the entrance examination for the Toulouse Conservatory at the start of the school year last September: Fernando Varquez-Sousa in clarinet class and Martin Faure in trumpet class.
Fernando Varquez-Sousa was enrolled by his parents in the musical awakening of the music school of L’Isle-Jourdain when he was in kindergarten. You have to learn the clarinet. David Galasso is his first teacher. After a few years of study, he joined the junior harmony ensemble and then the Philharmonie. In 2021, his second teacher, François Mahenc, encouraged him to take the entrance exams to the Toulouse conservatory.
On the waiting list for clarinet class, he took musical training courses at the Regional Conservatory (CRR). He finished the first year with a very good mention and the congratulations of the jury. After a final year of personal preparation and lessons with Guillaume Paes, he has just been admitted to the clarinet class at the conservatory where he also plays in his philharmonic ensemble.
Fernando Varquez-Sousa explains: “Entering the conservatory is without a doubt a great opportunity to go further in my passion”.
From saxophone to trumpet
Martin Faure comes from Mont-de-Marsan, lives among ducks and pines but he dreams of becoming a trumpeter. Initiated from an early age in the musical culture of the South-West, he arrived in Toulouse where he began the saxophone under the teaching of jazzman Jean-Marc Padovani. It is therefore on jazz tunes that he makes his first notes and exercises his young ear to music. After many years as an amateur saxophonist in brass band, big band or banda, he decided to discover another instrument.
During confinement, always intrigued by the brass, he begins the trumpet. He joined Jean-Louis Salvaire’s trumpet class at the Toulouse Gascony music school. Thanks to the instructions and advice of his teacher, he returned to the Toulouse Conservatory last September to pursue his dream and his musical studies.
