Progressive Slovakia wants to tighten up
Progressive Slovakia wants to tighten the use of dangerous pyrotechnics. The law was supposed to help reduce the impact of fireworks use, especially stress and injury to animals, threats to human health and environmental pollution.
“The proposal includes a complete ban on the use and sale of firecrackers as the most dangerous type of pyrotechnics and a stricter use of fireworks in the vicinity of hospitals, social service homes or animal shelters, simply wherever more vulnerable groups can cause harm,” explained environmental expert from PS Tamara Stohlová.
Unaffiliated MP Tomáš Valášek should challenge the proposal to parliament.
The working group that dealt with such a proposal had the law almost ready, but did not agree on its enforceability, said MP Jaroslav Karahuta (We are a family).
The group suggested that self-governments carry out the control within the framework of the generally binding regulation. However, small villages do not have the capacity for this. Karahuta, I think that the inspection could be done by the Slovak Environmental Inspection or the Environmental Police.
The task force had to complete this problem into law so that it would be approved before the Christmas holidays. “However, a politically turbulent period came and we were blocked by the Ministry of Economy, which did not agree with the amendment,” said Karahuta.
According to Karahut, if the law comes to parliament, the We Are Family parliamentary club will discuss whether to support it. For him, it is not important who presented the law, but what is important is the content and enforceability.
The co-founder and spokeswoman of the working group, Lenka Kmeťová, explained that they cooperated with the Animal Ombudsman and that of Martin Hojsík (PS) from the beginning on the Act on Pyrotechnics. “All of us want to finally stop the madness, especially with selected categories of so-called dum-boom pyrotechnic products that have the worst effects on the health and life of people, animals and nature, regardless of the political shirt,” she concluded.
