While ASVEL returned to victory at the reception of Paris, Monaco consolidated its leading position thanks to an extension victory on the floor of its runner-up Boulogne-Levallois
Monaco carried out a real hold-up at the Palais des Sports Marcel-Cerdan against Boulogne-Levallois. A poster at the top of the Betclic Elite that the Metropolitans knew how to take by the right end. The defense of Monaco being difficult in the face of Victor Wembanyama (27 points, 11 rebounds), the Parisians took over with a 7-0. Very quickly, a Sasa Obradovic very unhappy with the performance of his players took a time out to tighten the bolts. However, it was the Mets who hit where it hurt. With up to fourteen points ahead, Vincent Collet’s players finished the first quarter with a slightly reduced margin. The coach of the Blues having decided to blow “Wemby”, the Mets have lowered their foot a little against Monegasques who have raised their voices. Yoan Makoundou’s teammates (11 points) imposed a 13-6 on the Parisians at the start of the second quarter to return to contact. Nevertheless, Boulogne-Levallois was able to do what was necessary to regain some air on the scoreboard, reaching half-time with a lead of ten units.
Monaco overthrew Boulogne-Levallois
Back on the floor of the Palais des Sports Marcel-Cerdan, the Metropolitans brought up to date the recipe put in place at the start of the meeting. The result is a gap which very quickly swelled in favor of the Ile-de-France, returning to fourteen lengths in the middle of the third quarter. An air pocket of the “Roca Team” which only lasted a while. Sasa Obradovic’s men concluded these ten minutes with a 7-0 to blow in the neck of the Mets under the eyes of Michael Douglas, who came to admire Victor Wembanyama. The latter held on but it was a little less than two minutes from the buzzer that Monaco fell behind thanks to the long-range precision of Elie Okobo (28 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists). Tremont Waters (21 points) had the match point in his hand on the final possession but his three-point shot went off target, sending both teams into overtime. Five extra minutes that saw Boulogne-Levallois crumble and Monaco soar to a victory that seemed hard to imagine at the start of the match. This success of thirteen points (82-95), the eleventh in thirteen games, allows the “Roca Team” to earn its place as leader of Betclic Elite ahead of the Mets, beaten for the second time in a row.
ASVEL gets back on track
Beaten by Limoges then Monaco during its last two outings in Betclic Elite, ASVEL confirmed its European success in Barcelona during the reception of Paris. A meeting whose fate was not in doubt from the first quarter. Indeed, Amine Noua’s teammates (21 points, 7 rebounds) were no less than 18 points ahead after these first ten minutes. An ascendant that the second quarter only confirmed without possibly exceeding the 30-point gap. If the Parisians, under the impetus of Kyle Allman (20 points), tried to respond to the return on the floor of the Astroballe, they quickly sank by conceding a 15-0 which allowed ASVEL to reach a lead of 35 units. With such an advantage, TJ Parker’s players were able to slow down in the last ten minutes, the capital club taking advantage of it to come back to 27 points. However, a final boost allows ASVEL to win very easily (94-60) and move up to seventh place. Paris, beaten for the second time in a row, fell to 15th position.
