LFB: At the Astroballe, ASVEL women remain undefeated against Toulouse
In a relocated match-event at the Astroballe (2,050 spectators), the women’s ASVEL retained first place in the Women’s League standings by winning against Toulouse (89-72).
For one day, the female ASVEL has shaken up its habits by leaving its traditional lair of Mado-Bonnet for the Astroballe. On the other hand, on the floor, nothing has changed. David Gautier’s daughters retained their invincibility in LFB by signing their sixth victory of the season. Not without dispute for three quarters, against a promoted with long teeth, Toulouse.
Under the eyes of Tony Parker and Boris Diaw, the Lionesses delivered a solid start (12-4, 5th). But the Toulousaines then took advantage of the many losses of opposing balls – 12 at the break – to pass (21-22, 10th) and make equal play until the break (39-36). It was only at the very end of the third quarter that ASVEL broke away, thanks to a good outside address (66-57). The temporary absence of Kalis Loyd, limited by faults from the third (22 points, 8 rebounds), weighed heavily in the balance (79-61, 34th), before a too late return from the players of Xavier Noguera (89- 72).
Gabby Williams finds the rhythm
Julie German was particularly effective (13 points at 5/6 on shots, 7 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals) and carried her team in important moments. It was also the Lyon interiors who made the difference, thanks to the solidity of the trio Alexia Chartereau (16 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 27 evaluation) – Sandrine Gruda (11 points, 10 rebounds) – Héléna Ciak (9 points, 5 rebounds).
Clumsy in the first half, Marine Johannès corrected the situation in the second (12 points at 4/9 behind the arc, 3 assists but 4 stray bullets), as did Laura Quevedo (12 points at 4/6 at 3- points). Three days after his first game of the season against Lattes-MontpellierGabby Williams also seemed to regain his aggressiveness on both sides of the field (14 points at 5/9 on shots, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 3 steals for 17 evaluation in 27 minutes).
In the standings, the women’s ASVEL (6-0) retains the lead in the championship when Toulouse (2-4) concedes its fourth defeat in a row, and temporarily falls to 9th place.
It’s only the beginning of a great day of basketball at the Astroballe since the meeting of the boys will follow, two days after their exploit in Barcelona, against Paris Basketball in the league. Accompanied by the ceremony of removing the Admiral’s jersey, Amara Si. In-between at 6:30 p.m.!
in Villeurbanne.
