Jacques and Gabriella from Monaco celebrate their 8th birthday taking care of turtles
With parents so committed to nature and the environment, it’s no wonder that Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella dedicate part of their birthday day to animal welfare. This Saturday, December 10, on the occasion of their 8th birthday, the twins of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene participated in the conditioning of the turtles which will soon leave for Senegal.
Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella help send turtles to Senegal
Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella of Monaco celebrated their eighth birthday on Saturday. With their parents, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene, the twins made a short visit to the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, a place very much appreciated by the Monegasque sovereign. The museum was founded in 1889 by his great-grandfather, Prince Albert 1st.
In 2011, during an official visit to Mali, Prince Albert II received turtles. It is now the young of these turtles who are preparing to leave the Principality and return to Africa. Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella visited the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco on their birthday to help complete the final preparations.
The twins helped place the turtles in the transport boxes. They then decorated the boxes with designs made using stencils. The turtles then left Monaco and headed for Paris, where they will be sent to Senegal. Young turtles, of the species Centrochelys sulcata, joining the botanical reserve of Noflaye in Sangalkam in Senegal. These “spurred” turtles are so named because of the concentric furrows present on their shell.
Albert and Charlene’s twins were treated to a themed party for their 8th birthday
Provence explained “The natural habitat of spurred tortoises, present throughout the Sahelian strip in particular, is threatened by overgrazing by domestic livestock”. In Senegal, there are no more than 150 specimens, hence Prince Albert’s desire to contribute to the repopulation of the species in its natural environment, by seeing the young turtles born in captivity in Monaco.
In the evening, the twins were treated to a themed birthday party. For their 8th birthday, Jacques and Gabriella celebrated in a setting inspired by Sony video games. The Marquis de Baux and the Countess of Carladès had the same right to Super Mario and Sony mascots.
