World Cup 2022: after the qualification of Morocco, in Toulouse, more than 6000 supporters at Jean Jaurès and mortar fire on a police station
At the whistle, the horns began to hold in Toulouse and Morocco fans expressed their joy in the city center. More than 6,000 people celebrate the victory resulting in monstrous traffic jams.
Despite the cold winter, more than 6,000 Morocco fans braved freezing temperatures and gathered in the city center of Toulouse. Blows of horns, whistles, cries of joy… In Jean Jaurès, impossible to drive by car, the main axes have been closed for 6 p.m. In the adjacent streets, same story, the only cars are stationary waiting for traffic to resume. On the Toulouse ring road, at the Ponts-Jumeaux exit, traffic is complicated. Many motorists, flags out of windows, are trying to reach the city center from the outlying districts. Heavy traffic jams are underway. “I even gave up the idea of going home by car, I wait in a cafe until it settles down,” says a saleswoman while looking at the traffic jams in the street of her business.
At Boulevard Lascrosses, a hundred supporters of Morocco block traffic and celebrate this historic victory. Firings of fireworks and smoke lights up the Toulouse sky. At the exit of the Jean Jaurès metro, the crowd is invaded by smoke bombs and fireworks. An individual even climbed on a post at the corner of boulevard de Strasbourg and Jean Jaurès. An important police device frames these outpourings of joy.
In the Victor Hugo district, supporters climbed onto the roofs. In the Mirail district, the police station was targeted by mortar fire. The terraces of the bars are full to bursting. Barely this designated victory, these supporters of the “lions of the Atlas” are joined by those of the France team who face England tonight.
