Trial: Violence among prisoners in the prison
court
Violence between prisoners at the prison in Puch is an issue at the regional court: a well-known violent criminal is accused of having broken the foot of a fellow prisoner. But many seem to be afraid of this violent criminal.
The violent criminal accused of bodily harm, a Bosnian, has eleven prior convictions – most recently convicted of robbing an expensive SUV at gunpoint and posing as a drug investigator. After the attack on the fellow prisoner, he even had to be transferred to another prison in Lower Austria.
But he denies the physical violence against the fellow prisoner – who was recently sentenced to 15 years because he apparently drove his car into oncoming traffic on the Lamprechtshausener Bundesstraße and accepted the death of oncoming traffic. And this fellow prisoner weakens his original allegations so much, calling the broken foot “a trifle, nothing tragic”, that the responsible public prosecutor is now investigating him for false testimony and favoritism.
No verdict yet
It seems as if they are so afraid of dying from the Bosnian violent criminal that they give in. People familiar with the case also say the conflict between the two has prompted the suspension of two law enforcement officers accused of smuggling cellphones into prison, who are now in custody themselves.
A verdict in the Bosnian’s case has not yet been passed because another prisoner, who spoke German well a few months ago, suddenly no longer understands anything.
