Thessaloniki: Young women are changing the climate
ActionAid’s Center in Thessaloniki, with the support of the Greek National Association of Greek Orthodox Churches, organized on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 December 2022 “SKGinAction for Climate Justice”, a two-day actions for the mobilization of young people and the creation of political proposals for the climate.
The two days started with a speech, about what a Policy Brief is and what it takes to create one, from the youth group of the European program ActJust, which aims to strengthen the participation of EU youth in policy-making processes climate justice. Then the (dozens of) young people who came to the WE Multispace chose one of the three thematic categories (energy, food, education) that interested them, created a total of five groups and started preparing their proposals. All the groups were supported by mentors, who through speeches and thematic workshops supported them every step of the way.
The participants and participants continued on the second day to work with undiminished interest. After a thematic workshop on how to get the message of a policy proposal heard and another on the best public presentation techniques, all teams refined their proposals and presented them to the jury.
“Planet Edu” and their idea to create “Climeapp”, an integrated digital platform for environmental education of young people, collected the highest score and gave the prize of “SKGinaction for Climate Justice”. Namely, her participation in the other hackathon, in Vienna, Austria in February 2023.
The ActJust community program is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Program and the European Union and by organizations in seven countries, Greece, Austria, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Serbia and Lithuania.
