Garonne – EasyJet and Toulouse-Blagnac Airport celebrate the 10th anniversary of easyJet’s local base
● Since 2003, easyJet has served Toulouse and opened a base there in 2012.
● easyJet is the second airline in Toulouse and a major player in the connectivity of the city and its region.
● As part of its Net Zero roadmap, easyJet is committed to efficient operations and aims to achieve ‘zero emissions’ by 2050.
EasyJet, the leading European airline in terms of network and the second short and medium-haul airline in Toulouse, with 24% market share* is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Toulouse base and 26 years of local presence. A long-standing partner of the French regions, easyJet, a major role in the development of connectivity in Toulouse and its region, which has historically been poorly served by fast and affordable means of transport. easyJet carries nearly 2 million passengers a year to and from Toulouse.
It was in 2012, when the company was already present in Toulouse, that a base was created, making it possible to offer an affordable offer from the pink city and thus democratize leisure and business travel locally. The company has established itself as the leading carrier between the United Kingdom and Toulouse on leisure travel, the British being the first international tourists in France. Also very present on business travel easyJet has an average of 35% of business travelers on its domestic lines.
Ten years later, the company has 180 employees in Toulouse, all under French contract, and has authorized the creation of thousands of indirect jobs by transporting more than 19 million passengers since the start of its operations in Toulouse.
Bertrand Godinot, Managing Director of easyJet in France: “With Toulouse-Blagnac Airport, we have been bringing Occitans to France and Europe and helping to make Toulouse and its region accessible for more than 25 years. Investing in connectivity of the French regions is above all to make travel simple and accessible to everyone, even in an inflationary context where we continue to offer affordable prices. We are very proud of this long-standing relationship and of the work that our local teams perform every day to provide our customers with quality service.”
Philippe Crébassa, Chairman of the Management Board of Toulouse-Blagnac Airport: “easyJet arrived in Toulouse in 2003 to succeed Air Liberté on Europe’s largest route: Toulouse – Orly. Well known to Toulouse residents, easyJet has developed its network at our airport to become the second largest operator. The creation of a base in 2012 will be a major step in the development of the company in Toulouse-Blagnac.
10 years since easyJet planes found more than a base in Toulouse: a new home port, a home for their crew, and a real local success. It is therefore natural to salute all the progress made in Toulouse by the “orange” company and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its base. We are continuing our collaboration and are proposing a new offer adapted to the needs of our customers. »
Last September, the company unveiled its roadmap to reduce its carbon emissions. easyJet has rolled out an ambitious plan to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. This plan is to enable the airline to achieve this through a series of elements, with the ultimate ambition being to fly aboard aircraft that run on hydrogen and produce zero carbon emissions. easyJet is already working with industry partners, including Airbus and Rolls-Royce, on several specific projects aimed at accelerating the development of zero-carbon aircraft technology. This is complemented by Carbon Removal Technology, which physically removes carbon from the atmosphere, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), which is an interim measure. The company is also building on the work it is already doing to make its day-to-day operations ever more fuel-efficient and advocating for airspace modernization to reduce fuel usage by taking more direct routes.
