Stockholm, Dec 8 (IANS) All train traffic in Sweden came to a standstill due to a technical fault.
Just before 6pm on Wednesday, trains were ordered to move slowly to the next station after telephone contact between traffic control centers and trains was cut, Xinhua news agency quoted Dagens Nyheter (DN) as reporting.
Bengt Olsson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Administration, tells DN that it was a precautionary measure, as train drivers are warned by phone if a vehicle gets stuck at a railway crossing or a person ends up on the tracks.
– We have no idea what caused the error, but it means that we had to stop the traffic, says Olsson.
He also said it was too early to draw any conclusions about what caused the error.
DN said that it is not yet known when the problem would be solved.
