Several tunnels and roads blocked in Lisbon due to bad weather – Weather
Several tunnels and streets in Lisbon are, this Thursday, closed to traffic due to floods called by the heavy rains that hit the Portuguese capital, the commander of the Sapadores Firefighters of Lisbon, Tiago Lopes, told Lusa.
“The tunnels in Campo Grande, Campo Pequeno and Avenida João XXI are closed. Avenida 24 de Julho is also closed and Avenida de Berna too”, said Tiago Lopes.
According to the commander of Sapadores Firefighters in Lisbon, at 11:40 pm, “approximately 100 active occurrences” were recorded.
“There are no injuries or fatalities to regret so far”, he stressed.
Tiago Lopes also said that in the Xabregas area there is a situation of people trapped in vehicles.
“We also have a flood at the Francisco Xavier hospital and we are together with the Ajuda Volunteer Firefighters providing support. And we have a flood situation at the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II”, he added.
The commander also pointed out that in the city there are “small outbreaks of flooding both in the private space and in the public space”, saying that “it will take a while for the water to drain completely”, with no forecast for the end of the works.
Asked whether there were people who had to leave their homes due to floods, Tiago Lopes said he had no records.
“We had some situations on public roads of people who were trapped in vehicles, but not at home,” he said.
According to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), there are around 164 active occurrences in the Lisbon district, with the most dependent municipalities being Lisbon, Oeiras and Sintra.
Avenida Marginal, in Oeiras, between Algés and Cruz Quebrada is closed to traffic. In São Domingos de Rana, Cascais, Amadora and Queluz, Sintra, there are also several streets closed.
In Odivelas, cases of cars partially covered by water were also recorded.
