At the car electronics manufacturer Kyocera-AVX in Salzburg-liefering, the works council and management have agreed on a social plan. 82 employees are laid off, women in the production department are particularly affected. According to the union, there is a socially well-cushioned solution for them.
After long rounds of negotiations, there is now a social plan for the 82 employees and employees who will be made redundant at the car electronics manufacturer Kyocera AVX. Around 30 have to leave the company in January, and the rest will lose their jobs by late summer 2023.
When the workforce reduction became known, the management of Kyocera emphasized that the move was aimed at stabilizing and maintaining the Salzburg location. The company is struggling with procurement problems with components that are important for its own products. Most recently, the car electronics manufacturer employed 241 people.
Women over 50 are particularly affected by dismissal
Women over the age of 50, some of whom have been working for the company for decades, are particularly affected, said Daniela Wiermeier from the Pro-Ge union: “It’s a good social plan. Of course we would like it to be different, that we don’t lose any jobs, but those people who have to go get good social security.” She supported the works council in the negotiations.
Labor foundation for retraining is planned
A labor foundation has been agreed for those employees who want to undergo retraining. “We will know the details of the exact plans next week,” said Pro-Ge trade unionist Wiermeier.
Country announces support
If Kyocera-AVX needs public support for such a work foundation, the state of Salzburg is also basically willing to do so, according to the ORF request from the office of economics officer and governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP). It was agreed that the company should report if it needed help, said governor spokesman Christian Pucher.
