Goals set at 9th EUREGIO summit in Salzburg
Salzburg’s governor Wilfried Haslauer had invited to the ninth EUREGIO summit in the Chiemseehof in Salzburg. In addition to extensive traffic and mobility issues, the exchange also deals with cross-border cooperation in the rescue service, in energy production and in the current INTERREG Bavaria/Austria program.

Salzburg – A framework agreement between Germany and Austria is intended to put the work of the emergency services in the cross-border rescue and emergency medical service on a solid and modern basis. “For an agreement of this kind, which would then also affect the entire German-Austrian border areawe want to work together with the responsible federal ministries of health”, were themselves Governor Wilfried Haslauer and EUREGIO Vice President Bernhard Kern, District Administrator of the Berchtesgadener Land districtwith the governor Upper Bavaria, Konrad Schoberand the summit participants agree.

Eleven projects approved with EU funds
EUREGIO Managing Director Steffen Rubach finally informed the committee about the successful meeting of the EUREGIO decision-making body, which was set up to implement the EUREGIO border region strategy in connection with the INTERREG program. In its first meeting, this new body approve eleven projects for EU funding. All in all about 350,000 euros can now flow from Brussels to the common border region.

“We have coordinated the mobility, security and energy topics currently integrated in our EUREGIO and important next steps agreed. The discussion in a joint round is of crucial importance”, Salzburg’s Governor Wilfried Haslauer and EUREGIO President Norbert Meindl agreed. The next EUREGIO summit is to take place in autumn 2023, then again on the Bavarian side. It is also planned to invite people to a EUREGIO transport talk on cross-border transport issues again in spring 2023, as was the case last time in June 2022.
The EUREGIO summit is the platform in our Bavarian-Salzburg border region, which uses the regional politics of the city and state of Salzburg as well as the two districts of Berchtesgadener Land and Traunstein to rise to specific current topics.
The EUREGIO is an important platform and engine for cooperation between Bavarian and Salzburg municipalities, authorities and institutions in many areas of life such as tourism, transport, culture, education, business, nature conservation or sport. 73 municipalities from Salzburg and 42 from Upper Bavaria as well as the Upper Austrian St. Pantaleon and the Tyrolean Waidring, the two districts of Berchtesgadener Land and Traunstein as well as the Salzburg Chamber of Labour, the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Agriculture work together in this organization created in 1995.
