“Only with an independent energy supply will we be able to maintain Salzburg’s economy, the regional added value and the jobs in the state in the future,” emphasizes the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Governor Wilfried Haslauer.
Construction of the Stegenwald Salzach power plant will start in the first quarter of 2023, with completion scheduled for a little over two years later. Of the compound and die Salzburg AG are investing a total of around €100 million in the power plant, which WILL generate almost 73 gigawatt hours of electricity per year. “This project made one thing clear: shorter procedures are urgently needed. With objections and the obtaining of all permits, the construction of the Stegenwald power plant has been delayed by at least seven years,” criticized Salzburg AG general director Leonhard Schitter, who switched to Energie AG Oberösterreich at the beginning of January.
The Sulzau power plant in Neukirchen am Großvenediger will produce up to 18.4 gigawatt hours of electricity annually. Construction work will begin next April and is also expected to last about two years. Salzburg AG and the Neukirchen lighting cooperative are paying around €23.5 million for this.
In 2023, the Siezenheim II biomass cogeneration plant will also be completed. From October it will supply more than 8,000 households with district heating. “With these projects, we are making our heat and energy generation more independent of the international energy market and foreign gas imports,” explains Schitter. Salzburg AG will invest a total of €225 million in the coming year, with more than €36 million going into the expansion of renewable energies.
