Snow and gusts of wind in full storm – NRK Nordland
A warning has been sent out for snow drifts for Nordland and outer areas of Troms.
The reason is strong winds from the northwest and snow showers.
– There will be poor visibility and you have to prepare for poor driving conditions.
State meteorologist Bente Wahl says so.
In addition, there is a yellow danger warning in Trøndelag and Møre og Romsdal. Here, 10–25 centimeters of snow is expected in 24 hours in several places.
Winter is coming
November was the 10th warmest since 1900. Precipitation for the whole country was also 15 per cent below normal.
Nordland also had a risk of forest fires in the latter part of November.
But now there are many indications that the northerners will get more wintry weather.
– The weather coming now is really wintry. There is no doubt about that, says Wahl and adds:
– During the night and Tuesday there will be more and more snow showers.
Wahl also says that you have to be careful if you are going over mountain passes.
– Tuesday will be a really messy day, then.
In the event of a yellow danger warning for snow pike, the Meteorological Institute writes that convoy driving may be introduced and roads may be closed at short notice.
At Røstbanken and Tromsøflaket, there is also a yellow storm warning. This corresponds to a wind of 22 meters per second.
Easy to trigger small landslides
The notification service Varsom.no reports moderate avalanche danger in several places in the country.
It is recommended, among other things, to avoid terrain steeper than 30 degrees and outlet areas where the avalanche problem is present.
In the far north of the country, the warning service writes that some snow is expected in the next few days.
This snow will settle on the old, thin snow cover – and it will be easy to trigger avalanches.
It has issued a yellow danger warning for Vest-Finnmark, Lyngen, Tromsø, Sør-Troms, Ofoten, Svartisen, Helgeland, Trollheimen, Romsdal and Sunnmøre.
Good news for alpine resorts
Skarmoen ski center in Bodø is already ten days after the start of last year’s season.
But there are many indications that the ski cannons can start up this week.
In addition to precipitation in the form of snow, it will be considerably colder in large parts of northern Norway.
