″Respect for those who were on the field″
The delivery of the scepter took place in the middle of the lawn of the CD Aves Stadium, in Vila das Aves, during the interval of the victorious reception of Desportivo das Aves 1930 to Rio de Moinhos
The Municipality of Santo Tirso returned to Aves the Portuguese Cup trophy won in 2017/2018, which the municipality had acquired at auction two months ago, for 30,000 euros.
“It was an injustice that our own justice wanted to put on the table, but that has to be reviewed. It is execrable that there are legal aspects that prevent the title from passing into the hands of others, when it was won very well on the field. The City Council only did what was incumbent on it, which was to keep the heritage of a population, a club and a land in the right place”, reiterated the mayor Alberto Costa to journalists.
The handover of the scepter took place on the full lawn of the CD Aves Stadium, in Vila das Aves, at halftime in the victorious reception of Desportivo das Aves 1930 to Rio de Moinhos (3-1), for the 13th round of the 4th Series of the Division of Honor of the Porto Football Association.
Conquered on May 20, 2018, with a triumph against Sporting in the final of the queen competition (2-1), at Estádio Nacional, in Oeiras, the trophy was pledged within the scope of the insolvency of the northern SAD, having been auctioned at public auction from August to October.
A brace by Alexandre Guedes, against a goal by the Colombian Fredy Montero, sealed a success for the Avenses, then coached by José Mota, just five days after the invasion of the Academia de Alcochete, where they attacked several “leonine” players.
“The Municipality of Santo Tirso did this out of respect for those who were on the field, after a week in which it seemed that Desportivo das Aves did not exist. I was again doing in conscience what I did as president of the municipality. that what happened does not happen again”, confided Alberto Costa.
The ceremony was attended by footballers, technical staff and other employees involved in winning the Portuguese Cup, whose scepter was carried by the then goalkeeper and “captain” Quim and striker Alexandre Guedes to the pitch to be symbolically handed over by the mayor to the newly sworn in president of the Vila das Aves club, Pedro Pereira.
“The feeling is what you felt in the stadium. There was gratitude for the most important achievement in our history, which also serves as a kick-off for the rebirth we are working towards, so that the club returns to the levels it reached in the past . The Portuguese Cup is well delivered. The legal departments try to guarantee that they will not go anywhere else”, established the successor of António Freitas.
The auction was managed by the Judicial Court of the Comarca of Porto and ended exactly two months ago, having, from an opening value of 800 euros and a base value of 1,600 euros, set 1,360 euros as the minimum threshold accepted for the acquisition of the trophy.
Desportivo das Aves’ greatest achievement ever was arrested by the SAD in July 2020, when the administration led by Chinese Wei Zhao failed the licensing requirements in the professional competitions of the 2020/21 season with the League of clubs and dismissed the appeal for the Council of Justice of the Portuguese Football Federation.
The northerners had already been demoted to the II League, but fell administratively in the Portuguese Championship, then the third national level, due to salary debts and unilateral terminations of players, technical staff and employees.
SAD, which also witnessed the detention of the two Desportivo buses, opted to withdraw from participating in the Portuguese Championship in September 2020, five months before being declared insolvent by the Judicial Court of the District of Santo Tirso.
SAD’s debts of almost 37,500 euros to three foreign clubs led FIFA to prevent the club from signing up new players since August 2020, but António Freitas’s management helped to repay the futsal and football sections two months later , which started to represent a new club, designated by Desportivo das Aves 1930.
