Portugal: the players who are at risk for bookings
Footballers Rúben Dias, Danilo Pereira, Rúben Neves, Bruno Fernandes and João Félix are the names of Portugal at risk of missing the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup, if they see yellow in the round of 16 duel and if the Portuguese team wins Switzerland .
The five players have already seen a yellow card each in the competition and, as the barrier of yellows does not clear until the quarter-finals, the new yellow card can remove them from the next game.
Rúben Dias, Bruno Fernandes and João Félix did not leave the bench in the game against South Korea, while Rúben Neves was in the starting line-up, but did not see a yellow card. By the way, Portugal was left with a clean sheet against the South Koreans: no player was admonished. Therefore, there are no casualties for Tuesday’s duel with the Swiss (19 hours).
On the other hand, Danilo, who after the game with Ghana (in which he saw yellow) took it for granted that he would be absent from the rest of the group stage, was already a guarantee for the round of 16 in the disciplinary chapter. The physical issues remain: the PSG player was even one of the three absences in training this Saturday🇧🇷
It should be remembered that the rules regarding cards in the World Cup have changed, with the exclusion of yellow cards being in effect from the group stage to the quarter-finals. Basically, if a player sees two yellow cards until the quarterfinals, he will miss the semifinals game. Afterwards, all players start the semi-finals with a clean sheet in the disciplinary chapter, so that none runs the risk of missing the final due to a yellow card defeat. However, a dismissal in the semi-finals still carries a penalty for the final.
