Pedestrians worried about rickety crane
timeline
A supposedly wobbly construction crane in Schanzlgasse, under which a pedestrian path leads, has called the labor inspectorate and the building authority in the city of Salzburg to the scene. The authorities calmed down. She has given the executing construction company further safety requirements.
Passers-by have contacted Radio Salzburg: The construction crane for the renovation of the state kindergarten in Schanzlgasse in Salzburg-Nonntal – directly above the footpath between Kajetanerplatz and Unipark – does not rest on solid steel beams, but only loose a few layers of layered pieces of wood. Whether this would provide sufficient stability with heavy loads on the crane hook or strong gusts of wind seemed questionable to the concerned laypersons.
Experts: Stability fits, more backups
The construction police of the magistrate and the labor inspectorate immediately checked the construction at ORF’s request and blocked the footpath in good time. “The crane was set up correctly,” says the head of the Salzburg labor inspectorate, Ferdinand Loidl, but a roof made of wooden planks ten centimeters thick had to be erected over the footpath in the crane’s working area.
This is necessary to protect passers-by during the construction work, adds the head of the municipal building police, Andreas Philipp. The thin laminated wood panels installed by the construction company are not sufficient. The footpath under the crane has now been released again, and the required protective roof is to be checked by the authorities on Monday.
