Marcus & Martinus on the Sweden venture: – Will never forget Norway
The twin duo say they were asked to be part of the Norwegian MGP, but declined. Now they are ready for the Swedish Melodifestivalen.
– This is something we were asked about which feels very right right now. It’s an incredibly fun experience that we’re really looking forward to, says Marcus Gunnarsen.
On Wednesday, it became official with Marcus and Martinus Gunnarsen (20) will be at the Swedish Melodi Grand Prix.
Martinus says they cannot reveal much about the show.
– But we can say that we are entertainers, we love the stage and this is our life! We will put on a real show for those watching, and plan the show every day going forward, he says, and continues:
– And an exciting song at that. On “Masked singer” we felt that we got to show off our more, and we want to do that now too. It’s a song where we get to use our voices well, which starts slow and mysterious, and builds up to something energetic.
The twin duo won in May the Swedish “Maskorama”.
– Since corona, we have changed our PR agency and music management to Stockholm, and we have signed with the record company Universal Sweden, says Marcus.
– The music capital of Scandinavia
Marcus and Martinus say on the phone from the Swedish capital that they are now ready to “reach out to as many people as possible”.
– Stockholm is the music capital of Scandinavia, and we work so close to Stockholm, so it’s nice to have a base here. We have a great thing going, says Marcus.
– Were you asked to join the Norwegian MGP?
– Yes, we were asked, but we were asked by the Swedish Melodifestivalen earlier, and we agreed to that, replies Marcus.
– You do a lot in Sweden now. Are you done with Norway?
– Before corona, we also worked an incredible amount abroad. We got fan bases in other countries, so we want to go out and say hi to everyone. It does not mean that we have forgotten Norway and the fans, because it means an incredible amount to us. But we want to develop, and then we have to get out of our comfort zone and go to other countries.
Music manager in Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix, Stig Karlsen, tells VG that they do not comment on any processes that take place behind the scenes, but this does not come as a surprise.
– Marcus and Martinus have worked targeted at the Swedish market for a long time. Melodifestivalen is a natural step for them, he writes in an email.

Girlfriend
It’s not just in Sweden that things are going well, because Marcus’s love life has also flourished recently.
– Yes, it’s very nice, he says.
On August 16, the Swedish press team confirmed to the brothers at Marcus no longer was hero single.
Monday published Aftonbladet an interview where Marcus opens up further about his love life and that he was happy and in love.
Girlfriend Nora Fossland Gartland is studying in Paris. The couple, who have been together for four months, therefore have a long-distance relationship.
– I’ve never been in a relationship before, so it’s hard to compare it to anything, but both knew that there were going to be times when we were going to be apart. We’ll just have to deal with that, but we’ll try to meet as often as possible anyway. So far it works very well.
According to Marcus, his girlfriend is coming home from Paris for Christmas, and then they get to see each other more, even though Marcus is on the move a lot with music.
Did you get this one?
– I slipped into her DM
They met in the usual way in our digital age – on social media.
– I slipped into her DM (direct message on Instagram editor’s note), quite simply. I feel it can be a bit difficult to get to know girls, because I don’t like going out to party, I’m not particularly good with girls and talking and flirting and stuff like that, so it was easier with social media, says Marcus, and continues:
– I think she was a very pretty girl, so I had to send a message. Then I noticed quite quickly that it was a lot of fun to talk to her, and we found out that we had to meet. Fortunately, it went very well.
– What do you think that your brother has got a girlfriend then, Martinus?
– It was about time, he replies finally.
– It’s nice that he has found someone, and he must have that he is able to meet her, meet and have such good contact with her, even though he is a busy boy.
For Martinus, there is no one in sight at the moment.
– It’s probably boring for you to hear, but it will come when it comes. Then it often comes when you least expect it.
Thailand holiday
Now there is a lot of work with Melodifestivalen, before the duo go on a family holiday to Thailand.
– We haven’t had much family time lately, so now we get a short week together in Thailand, and it will be good.
At the same time, Marcus states that they have plans to release new music next year.
– We have a number of songs that are ready, so next year there will be a lot of new music.
The twin artists say they will almost certainly go on a concert tour next year. But will they come to Norway?
– Then there will be 100 percent certain concerts in Norway. Norway is highest on the priority list when it comes to concerts. Norway is the country we are from and the country we love most. We will never forget Norway, says Martinus.
