Francisco Chacón, ABC correspondent in Lisbon, dies – Observer
The journalist correspondent of the Spanish daily ABC in Lisbon, Francisco Chacón, died in Malaga along with his family, the Spanish press announced Friday.
The news was advanced by ABC in a tribute text written by the Spanish journalist Belén Rodrigowho was a correspondent for that newspaper in Portugal between 2002 and 2015. Belén Rodrigo describes him as “unique and special”.

According to Belén Rodrigo, Francisco Chacón was “a person very dear to the Portuguese and many renowned Portuguese artists deeply regret his early and unjust death”.
“He loved the 1980s band Sétima Legião, its founder Rodrigo Leão and his beloved The Gift and understood like no one else the richness of the Portuguese cultural scene”, he recalls, recalling the “good sources” that will allow him to “carry out important interviews” and the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
Born in Bilbao in 1963, Francisco Chacón started working at El Correo and later moved to El Mundo, where he founded its Basque version. In 20 years at El Mundo, the journalist has always been linked to the Culture section, even becoming editor of the section.
He was an ABC correspondent in Lisbon since February 2015.
