Venice Lido, they steal the Christmas tree of the merchants and disappear into thin air: “Heinous theft, ruined atmosphere”
LIDO – Garden City merchants’ Christmas tree stolen. The Christmas trees had just arrived, paid for by the merchants out of their own pockets, to bring a little Christmas atmosphere, not only to the center and Gran Viale, but also to this neighborhood of the island. For this reason, about fifteen exhibitors have joined the initiative of the Proloco of Lido and Pellestrina, taxing themselves. The saplings had just been placed, but not yet anchored, on Wednesday afternoon. The decorations with lights still had to be completed. Yesterday morning the bitter surprise: a small tree, positioned the night before between the Maya clothing store and the Ottica Zennaro, had disappeared after the night.
To take it away unknown hands, most likely, they loaded it into an automobile, because a tree of that height can hardly be moved by hand. From the Betti Bimbi shop, a few tens of meters away, someone has stolen some Christmas decorations. Whether it’s an act of vandalism or a theft committed deliberately, it makes no difference: the gesture ruined the sense of the initiative and the intention to bring everyone a little joy and light for Christmas to the whole community . There are also some cameras in the area, so we are trying to trace who may have carried out such an action. There is also the hope that, given the uproar this gesture has caused, the perpetrators will be able to repent and bring the tree back to where they found it. That would be a good sign.
«It’s really a heinous theft – comments the operator Lorenza Pedani – I’m really saddened because it’s a gesture done only to ruin the atmosphere that we were all trying to create together. Ours is not an initiative to raise cash, but to try to create a more beautiful and welcoming atmosphere for everyone. For this reason, despite being a difficult time for everyone, we taxed ourselves. The theft took place after a few hours, on the first night. If this is the beginning, let’s really hope that there aren’t more».
