Train traffic between Cologne and Düsseldorf free again – route closure lifted
In North Rhine-Westphalia, the railway reported a route closure. No trains could run between Düsseldorf and Cologne for hours – now they are rolling again.
On Tuesday evening there was no getting through on the Cologne-Düsseldorf route for a long time. Deutsche Bahn announced this on its Twitter channel. “Please expect delays and cancellations,” it said. Customers complained about waiting times of more than three hours.
The important regional connection had to be closed due to an emergency doctor’s call between Düsseldorf Hbf and Düsseldorf-Benrath. Apparently there were also delays and partial cancellations on the route via Neuss. As an alternative route, Deutsche Bahn recommended a journey via the Düsseldorf-Dortmund route and then Dortmund-Cologne via Wuppertal.
The closure was planned to last until around 10 p.m. Shortly after midnight, the route was released again, said the North Rhine-Westphalia train information. “As a result, there may still be some high delays and, if necessary, partial failures,” it said on the official website.
Passengers are asked to find out more about their own connection before departure, according to Deutsche Bahn.
