Genoa, new service center for poverty opened in the former Massoero asylum
The new one has been operational since last night in Genoa Poverty Service Center – Post Office in the’former Massoero night asylumhistoric building in via del Molo, at the center of an urban regeneration project and expansion of activities aimed at people in poverty.
Homeless people can find new reception services here, first only at night, with canteen and laundry for hotel guests.
«The structure – explains the Councilor for Social Services Lorenzo Rosso − sees a progressive expansion of the offer of services in favor of homeless people and in conditions of extreme poverty. We have started a first rearrangement of the spaces and further interventions will follow maintenance that will affect the remaining portions of the building from the third to the fifth floor. There cafeteria, which we opened yesterday evening, represents one of the first fundamental building blocks that will see the completion, over three years, of a cutting-edge service center for poverty with the needs of social infirmities within the former Massoero, which since 1925 it has represented a point of reference as a welcome and support for people in conditions of social fragility”.
For the construction of the new Service Center for Poverty, the Municipality of Genoa has also obtained funding under the Pon-Legality, of the Pinqua, of the Pnrr and the partnership with the Foundation of the Compagnia di San Paolo.
