Under-19. Portugal draws with Germany in UEFA preparatory tournament
IOn the third minute, Portugal opened the scoring through a penalty successfully converted by Miguel Falé, and the advantage of the Portuguese team was maintained until the second half, when Damar, also with deep discounts, tied the score at 50 minutes.
Fifteen minutes later, João Neves, ‘captain’ of the young ‘quinas’ team, headed the ball into the back of the German goal, following a corner, returning the advantage to Portugal.
However, already in stoppage time, at 90+3, and after the expulsion of the Portuguese defender Gonçalo Esteves, Germany managed to reach the equalizer through Leandro Morgalla and took advantage of the better difference between goals scored and conceded during the tournament to lift the cup.
The Germans scored 12 goals and followed two, while the Portuguese scored six and followed three.
The UEFA Preparatory Tournament serves as a preparation for the Elite Round of access to the European Championship, which will take place in spring 2023.
Next week, on December 8th, Portugal will meet its opponents, in a draw scheduled for 10:00.
In the Elite Round, the 27 entries selected from the first qualifying round join Portugal, whose participation in the competition begins at that stage, as it is seeded.
The winners of the groups in action in the Elite Round will earn the right to play in the final phase, which will take place in Malta, between the 3rd and 16th of July next year.
