Naval battle and life in Ancient Athens
The books by Nikos Kyriazis and Emmanuel Marios Oikonomou “The Naval Battle” (Estias Bookstore) and “Daily Life in Ancient Athens” (Enalios) will be presented in Volos, tonight, Tuesday November 29, at 19:00, at Department of Economic Sciences of the University of Thessaly (building of the former French Institute of Volos, G. Kartali – Korai).
The event is organized by the Department of Economics of the University of Thessaly, the General Archives of the State (G.A.K.) of Magnesia, the Association of Philologists of Magnesia, the Cultural Center “Iolkos” and the Book Center of Magnesia Authors (K.V.Ma. Ltd.) in collaboration with “Enalios”, “Estia” publications and the “Lianaridis” bookstore.
The books will be presented by Vicky Manzorou – philologist, president of the Association of Philologists of Magnesia and Iota Kougialis – educator, writer. The event will be coordinated by the journalist Rosana Popota.
“The Naval Battle” is a novel with Nicomedes as the central figure, one of the greats of the generation of the Athenian Republic and the Persian Wars. He narrates his life from the Olympiad of 524 BC. to Salamis and the struggle of a people for freedom and democracy.
In the book “Daily life in Ancient Athens» the authors of this book focus their interest on ancient Athens, which was the classic model of a developed slave-owning democracy. The life of the people, the wealthy Athenian citizens but also the sharecroppers and the slaves.
Nikos Kyriazis is a professor in the Department of Economic Studies of the University of Thessaly and the University of Piraeus. Emmanuel Marios Economou is an assistant professor in the Department of Economic Studies at the University of Thessaly.
