How many buildings built more than 100 years ago do Lisbon and Porto have? — idealista/news
will be the housing stock aged and the need to be renewed and/or growing? The most recent data, known from the 2021 Censusshows that there are still many buildings centenarians in the country, with the majority in the two main cities, Lisbon and Porto.
Only in Lisbon there were, in 2021, 8,322 buildings over 100 years old, that is, built before 1919. This is, however, a big step back from 1981, when there were 19,575 centenary properties in the capital. The numbers in question were recently released by the pordatawhich is based on its database and data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), as well as the aforementioned 2021 Census.
A scenario that is also visible in the Harbor, where there were, last year, 5,222 buildings built before 1919. Much less, however, than two decades ago: there were 11,991 in 1981.
The top five of portuguese cities where there are more buildings over 100 years old, Vila Nova de Gaia, Sintra and Serpa have 3,275, 1,942 and 1,919 buildings, respectively. Numbers that also decreased significantly compared to those recorded 20 years earlier, in 1981.
In the opposite direction are Porto Santo, Porto Moniz, Corvo, Manteigas and Sines, which in 2021 had only 16, 19, 21, 29 and 33 centenary buildings, respectively.
